Handmade and hand-painted on thin Thai paper. 25" w x 37" H. Unframed. The Seagram Building is a landmark of modern architecture located at 375 Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. Completed in 1958, it was designed by German-American architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, with Philip Johnson collaborating on the interiors. Commissioned by the Seagram Company, this 38-story skyscraper became an icon of the International Style, emphasizing simplicity, proportion, and the use of modern materials like steel, bronze, and glass. What sets the Seagram Building apart is its elegant minimalism and structural clarity. Its bronze-tinted curtain wall, which conceals the building’s steel frame, gives it a timeless and luxurious appearance. Uniquely, Mies set the tower back from the street to create a public plaza — a design element that influenced urban architecture across America and eventually became a zoning requirement in New York. The building is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful and influential skyscrapers in the world, embodying the modernist mantra: “less is more.” It was designated a New York City Landmark in 1989 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006. The Seagram Building not only revolutionized corporate architecture but also helped shape the aesthetic of modern cities.
